Fantastic Weekly Pt 24 - 09.10.2020

We have talked a lot about how to proceed with the next phase since we entered Beta 2.0. Analytics and testing will become a significant part of our Game Design process from now on and players will have much more room to participate into the development process.
We are now focusing on implementing and testing the new terminal scene with the new functionalities we have been working on for some time now. Also players will have the first version of XP system and skill tree implemented into the game soon! :D
The development and design of the web-component of the game has kicked off with some more steam now. Olli will be taking over the web component making sure that all data will flow smoothly and we can provide a good experience on knowledge sharing and participating into conversation to our players and partner companies.
This week we had a demo event at Skanssi and I must say the effects of the pandemic are showing! There weren’t that many people, but that’s good, since social distancing is super important. We had fun regardless, since the company was great! With us on the stand were Valonia, the City of Turku, and Martat.
Masks are essential! And this was the stand on Tuesday 😁
We’re now starting to plan testing events to get feedback on new changes to the game before they’re added to the public build. Keep an eye on our social media for a chance to join in with this!
This week we finally got out the major update that has been cooking for some time now!
The update contains a lot of new features and of course our cute new mascot Lieke!
We have a new base-layout with a nice rotating camera.
A new Terminal scene (under monstrous maintenance at the moment though… ;) ) and the tutorial & player information in place.
I have started the process of adding the monsters into the base after the battle is won, so soon players will have their new friends roaming around the cute new base!
I have been mostly trying to fix some graphics issues in the project and also setting up the terminal to the project. I’ll be super occupied by our other project for the next few weeks but I’ll try to make something cute for Fantastic Energy also each week. Here’s a graphics issue example, I present to you the Godzilla Pölkky!
Back to the creature design and modeling, woohoo! It is my favourite part of the work! First, I polished the “menninkäinen”. Here is an old vs new model. I made it more furry looking and gave it a better texture.
Second, I sketched some “scary” monsters, for darkening nights. I’m also trying to balance the cuteness factor, and making them fit well in the FE-world. Here are some sketches: BOOO!
